Vimala Raman was born and brought up in Sydney, Australia on 23rd of January. She started practicing Bharatanatyam at the age of five. Vimala Raman attended the Natanalaya Dance Academy based in Sydney, Australia. She studied dance under the tutelage of Jayalakshmi Kandiah.
In 2004 she won the Miss India Australia title as well as the Miss India Australia cyberqueen title. She has appeared in Tamil, telugu and Malayalam films. Her first movie was Poi, a Tamil film directed by Kailasam Balachander. Her first Malayalam movie was Time with Suresh Gopi. She paired with Ajmal Ameer in Pranayakalam in 2007. In the same year, she also appeared with Mammooty in Nasrani and with Dileep in Romeoo. She appeared in College Kumaran with Mohanlal and in Calcutta News with Dileep in 2008. Soon, Vimala will appear in Dam 999, an international movie directed by Sohan Roy.
